Typing indicators
Typing indicators are short-lived interface signals that another participant is composing a message. They describe transient activity rather than a durable chat record.

How it works
Send activity at a controlled rate rather than on every keystroke. Expire an indicator locally if fresh signals stop, because a lost connection may prevent a final stopped-typing event. Validate the user's membership in the conversation and avoid putting draft message content into the activity payload.
In a Pubb integration
Your backend can publish typing activity to an authorized Pubb channel. Pubb supplies event delivery; the application defines throttling, expiry and the UI behavior.
Publish an eventA practical example
A client periodically reports activity while composing. Other participants show its display name briefly and clear the indicator when the local timeout expires or a saved message arrives.
