Channels & presence

Presence channel

A presence channel combines authorized realtime messaging with information about the members currently subscribed, including membership changes.

How it works

Presence makes a shared room feel live by exposing who has joined or left. Membership is connection-derived and may take time to reflect an unexpected disconnect. It is useful interface state, but it should not replace persistent permissions, attendance records or an authoritative audit log.

In a Pubb integration

Pubb presence channel names start with presence-. Authorization includes a user identity, and client membership events let the interface maintain a current member list.

A practical example

A design review room shows participants when its presence subscription succeeds, adds avatars when members join and removes them when departure events arrive.
