Redis Pub/Sub

Redis Pub/Sub is a Redis messaging facility that distributes publications on named channels to clients currently subscribed to those channels.

How it works

Redis Pub/Sub has at-most-once delivery semantics: messages lost during a subscriber disconnect are not replayed by that mechanism. Redis Streams is a different facility with different behavior. An architecture can use other storage around pub/sub without turning the live routing layer itself into a history database.

In a Pubb integration

Pubb uses Redis to route events between its API and socket services, alongside PostgreSQL-backed application data and publication acceptance. Application message history still belongs in your own backend.

Publish an event

A practical example

The publishing service emits an event into the routing layer, and the socket service forwards it to matching connected clients. An offline browser later recovers its state from the application API.
