Delivery & reliability

Message history

Message history is a persistent record of past messages or events that an application can retrieve later, including after a client disconnects or a service restarts.

How it works

Live distribution and durable storage have different jobs. A database can retain conversation records and enforce access rules, while a realtime channel tells connected screens that something changed. Define retention, pagination and permissions for the stored records independently of the event transport.

In a Pubb integration

Pubb delivers live events to connected subscribers and is not a durable message-history database. Store chat messages and other authoritative data in your backend, then load that data on entry and after reconnecting.

Publish an event

A practical example

Save each chat message with an ID and timestamp, publish its arrival, and serve older messages through your own paginated conversation endpoint.
