WSS

WSS is the URL scheme for a WebSocket connection protected by TLS, which encrypts traffic in transit and authenticates the server through its certificate.

Also found under: Secure WebSocket, WebSocket over TLS

How it works

The ws scheme represents an unencrypted connection; wss is the secure form used for production web applications. Transport encryption protects the network hop, but it does not decide which channels a user may join or make data end-to-end encrypted between application users.

In a Pubb integration

Pubb's hosted socket endpoint uses wss://ws.pubb.io/socket. Keep channel authorization in place for restricted data even when the connection is encrypted.

Connect a client

A practical example

An HTTPS dashboard connects to the WSS endpoint, then requests authorization for private-user-42. The secure connection and the channel permission solve different parts of the integration.
