The Scale plan is now free for open-source projects
Open-source projects bring people together to build, share and solve problems. We want to help those projects bring their users together, too. Approved open-source projects can now use pubb’s Scale plan completely free, including every monthly renewal. Apply through support, tell us what you’re building, and we’ll review your project for a 100% discount code.
Room for your next realtime feature
A shared project board should show a task moving while teammates are still looking at it. A community tool can let people know who is online. A game can bring players into a lobby, share a conversation and announce the next turn. These are the kinds of experiences you can build with pubb’s events, channels and presence.
We’re offering free Scale access to help open-source maintainers build those features and make them available to a larger audience. The program gives approved projects the standard Scale capacity, with the subscription price covered by a recurring 100% discount.
The full Scale plan, including renewals
At launch, Scale includes 10,000 concurrent connections, up to 25 applications and unlimited monthly messages. It supports public, private and presence channels, with capacity shared across the applications in your workspace.
Unlimited monthly messages means there is no monthly message quota. Standard Scale connection, operation-rate, bandwidth and payload limits still apply. You can find the current limits on the pricing page; the open-source offer changes the subscription price, not those limits.
The discount covers every monthly renewal as well as the initial subscription. Approval does not give you a single free month followed by the regular Scale price. Once the approved code is applied to your Scale subscription, the recurring plan charge is fully discounted.
Apply from your project’s workspace
Sign in to pubb and select the workspace you want to use for your open-source project. Open the application link below. It takes you to support with the subject “Open-source Scale application” already filled in, and attaches your request to the active workspace.
Include your public repository URL, the project’s open-source license, your role in the project and a short description of how you plan to use pubb. For example, tell us whether you’re adding live notifications, a shared dashboard, chat or multiplayer lobbies. A clear description helps us understand the project and the experience you want to build.
Submit the application and follow the conversation under Active tickets. We review applications manually and reply there. If we need more information, you can answer in the same conversation. Access starts after approval; submitting a request does not automatically upgrade your workspace.
Use your code to activate Scale
After approval, we’ll send your 100% discount code and activation instructions in the support conversation. The workspace owner can then open Billing, choose Scale and enter the code at checkout. Confirm that the Scale subscription total shows zero before completing checkout.
If your workspace already has a paid subscription, mention that in your application so we can provide the appropriate activation instructions. If the code does not apply or the total is not zero, reply in the support conversation before proceeding.
Then start with one useful feature: an update appearing on a shared screen, a conversation reaching its participants, or a presence indicator showing who is there. We’re looking forward to seeing what you build.
